Good-bye Godet

You know when God gives you daughters He also gives you live-in fashion consultants. Mine can be brutally honest about my choice in clothing sometimes. A few post back I showed you a picture of a skirt I attempted to sew this summer. All I wanted was a simple cotton skirt to wear during this hot, humid summer we're having. I wasn't happy with the way it turned out. It was way too long, it was way too full and I felt "frumpy" wearing it. Plus my youngest fashion consultant said I looked "Duggerish". If you watch TLC you know what that means. That's all I needed to hear; I decided to re-work my skirt. I took out 3 of the godets. I shortened it by 4 inches. Now I'm more comfortable wearing it and my fashion consultant doesn't think I look like Ma Dugger anymore. Whew....

Also want to give some Happy Birthday love to Buster whose birthday is today and to my sweet dad who is celebrating on Saturday. Then on Sunday every person in our house will be double digits. Yes, my Leah will be 10. She is so excited.

lol.. I can so relate with the brutally honesty coming from my kids. They are the first to let me know if I am making a fashion mistake.

My daughter always lets me know when I don't meet her "standards". How did I ever get along without her, I wonder... Happy birthday to all!

Blessings,
Caroline

I appreciate my girls advise when shopping. They try and keep me from looking too "frumpish"!!!!

Happy birthdays all around at your house.

Hi Joy, I guess, since I raised boys, I didn't ever 'learn' about fashion... ha ha.. But--I love your new skirt. It's cute--and you did a great job of sewing it yourself.

Lots of August birthdays in your house.... Happy Birthday to ALL.
Hugs,
Betsy

This is so true! My daughters are brutally honest as well. Not long ago I had on a pink t shirt and my daughter comes up to me and says "mom, you shouldn´t wear such bright colors in your age".....
OK. Point taken. But I love that tshirt and still wear it when she´s not there. :)

Good for you taking the time to rework it! I've been "fighting frumpy" for about 5 years. I refuse to give in!

Happy birthday Buster and Dad! I'm about to have a 10 year old in the house too. Yikes!

I would love to have had a daughter although of course I love my three sons to death. For good or no they don't have a clue what I look good in except my middle son was shocked when he was ten that I should consider a mini skirt.

Happy birthday to all the birthdays in your house. I always remember your Dad's. Andreas was on the 18th, Edwin Parker, my 1st cousins was on the 17th or 19th.They were all one day apart, but I can't remember how the guys fell. My sister being gone is still so sad for me. Love you all, aunt Clarissa

Everyone in double digits. That's an awful lot of Mama work under the bridge. Congratulations to your daughter, and also to you!

Joy, I had one of those fashion consultants until she moved to Mississippi and now when we see each other, she is kind enough not to mention if I have on something that is not fashionable.....They do grow out of it.

Just hand in there.
