Hummingbird Bully

This morning Paige called me to the back window and we watched two hummingbirds at our feeder. . .Do you see it?? Kind of above the feeder and to the left. He looks like a sweet, innocent hummingbird, but I wish my picture-taking abilities weren't so poor so you could see the rest of the story.
It took a minute to realize that we had a hummingbird bully in our midst. He was being quite territorial and not letting the other hummingbird have a sip of the syrupy, sugary, red-koolaid looking stuff in the feeder. I wanted to yell at it and say

"Hey!! Mr. Flutterbritches! Who do you think you are!! We share around this house!!! You better let your hummingbird friend have something to eat too!!!!

Then I remembered I just purchased the book Scream Free Parenting by Hal Runkel and that wouldn't be the "cool" parenting thing to do. I kind of felt like it's momma because I am providing nourishment for it in the form of a sugary snack which is what I do with my 2 legged children; and technically I haven't read the book yet, only the intro so I could yell. I told Buster a.k.a. husband that I was going to read this book. He thought it would take all the fun out of parenting if we couldn't yell.
~Sigh~

I'm Blogger Deficient

I entered the blogger world in June 2008. Before that I really had no idea this world existed. After viewing a friends blog http://www.weight-inggame.blogspot.com/, I jump into blogging. I decided on a name for my blog, chose a template and followed the directions to put me on the blogger map.

I discovered this website http://www.blogaroundtheworld2.blogspot.com/

...
Now I'm reading other blogs from all over the world. Usually Moms with similar interest to mine. I'm amazed at the clever, fun-loving women who are inspiring, informative and have terrific writing abilities. You make me laugh and cry.

But I have to admit...I have "blogger envy". I see such cute templates, colorful backgrounds, great artwork and headers that make me go WOW!
I really have no idea how to do all that stuff. I have so much to learn. I have a question????? How did you all learn to do these things? I'm just figuring out what a Html is. Trust me, prior to June 2008, those 4 letters meant absolutely nothing to me. Who knew those 4 letters would control my blogging life.

For instance, I saw a link to create a signature. (http://www.mylivesignature.com/) I did it, but I can't figure out how to make it not be in a box.

There are things I want to know, and maybe I'll figure them out eventually. But all you bloggers out there - you so impress me. I wish I could sit down beside you at a computer and let you show me all those wondrous things.
Please leave me comments, give me guidance, instruction...help me...I need it. I'm all ears or I guess I should say... html's.

School is back in Session

Can I hear an "amen" from all the Moms. :)

It was a great start to the school year. Leah came home from school so excited. "I am in love with my teachers!" is what she said. She also has a another new BFF. So life is good for this 4th grader.

Paige had a great start in Jr. High. She found all her classes. I understand lunch was quite an event with packed cafeteria, but she came home excited as well.

I had a great first day of school. I went to a Moms In Touch Back to School prayer time that morning, had lunch with friends, and came home to wait on two happy girls.

Also yesterday, my four-legged girl Libby (our dog) escaped our yard and was found by one of our friends out roaming the streets. Thank you Laura :)

I think I need to send Libby to school too - obedience school.

Moms In Touch

Wow! A new school year. All the supplies are purchased (we hope) and the teachers have been assigned...It's a fresh start.

It is also another year that I'm blessed to be a part of Moms In Touch International. Moms In Touch started 25 years ago when a lady named Fern Nichols asked another mom to pray with her as they sent their children off to public high school. Since that prayer time of two moms, it blossomed into a ministry that has touched moms all around the world.
Moms In Touch is a prayer time for moms that meets just one hour per week. We simply follow a prayer sheet that guides us through the Four Steps of Prayer. We pray for our children, teachers, faculty and any school concerns.

I started praying with a Moms In Touch group when my oldest daughter started 2nd grade. She is starting 7th this year. I know we all wish we could spend more time in prayer. This is a great way to schedule it into your week. Psalm 68:19 reads Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Moms in Touch is a great opportunity to pray each week with others moms to release any burden you may have for your children and the school they are attending.
Go to the Moms In Touch website at
http://www.momsintouch.org/ and find a group for your school.

Do something Drastic - Say no to Plastic

I know I have blogged on this before. But I really feel like this is one of the easiest ways we can be green. I have copied a post from a website that gives some facts about using canvas bags vs. plastic or paper at the grocery store. Decide this is what you are going to do and purchase some canvas bags and keep them in your car. I know you will forget the first few times. I've gone into the grocery store and got my cart and realized my bags were in the car...had to go back and get them. But you'll get in the habit of taking them. Just keep them handy in your car. Not in your pantry at home. :)

Paper or Plastic?

Use Canvas Instead!

Americans use 100 billion plastic shopping bags each year, requiring 12 million barrels of oil to make them. It takes one 15-year-old tree to produce 700 paper grocery bags. One supermarket can use all of them in under an hour!

Each high quality, reusable canvas bag in use has the potential to replace 1,000 plastic bags over its lifetime.

Reduce…Reuse…Recycle…Rebuy

It all comes back to you!

A Blurb from the Burbs

Moneysaver:
When washing towels and sheets use distilled white vinegar for your fabric softener in your washing machine instead of fabric softener. Your towels will come out of the dryer soft and you can save the pricier fabric softener for your clothes. Remember towels and sheets only. :)
