I’m Mature Now

A few weeks ago I pulled a box down from the storage area of our garage. I was looking for old family pictures.   I found my diary from my when I was a little girl.  It spanned several years.   Buster and the girls had many laughs thanks to my diary entries.

This particular entry was pretty funny from 1977.  I’m sharing it with you all…don’t laugh cause I don’t know if I’m mature enough to handle it.

Joy's Diary 77

If you can’t read my handwriting it reads…

Dear Kitty ‘77'  (yes, my diary had a name actually two: Kitty and Sarah)

today I’m in the 7th grade.  I’m mature now and I got a locker today.

I met some deaf girls  I don’t know there names.  They  can’t here nothing but silence.  I don’t know sign language but I’ll try to learn some

Dear Kitty

I am almost through with my Laura Ingalls Books.  I wish I had more I love them.

Who knew getting a locker and being in 7th grade made one mature.  Apparently, it did in my little pea brain back then.  After going back and reading some of the entries, I  was also very boy crazy.  I will spare you those details.  I think I should have quit chasing boys and worked on my grammar and spelling.

The school I attended started a deaf school around this time.  I think it was my first time being around deaf kids - thus my insight into their world.  Astounding huh.

In other news,,,, speaking of maturity…which I still wonder if I will ever achieve some times, Buster and I celebrated twenty-two years of marriage this weekend.  We had a nice dinner out.   Leah sat on the coffee table and took this picture of us before we left for dinner.

So….at what point in life did you start feeling mature or are you still waiting on that moment?

Your story is so sweet. And,sweetly joking, it was mature for you to share your diary entry! Just think how far you've come (we've all come)that you felt comfortable to share with strangers your teenage thoughts. I'm am inspired by your confidence. I guess I started feeling mature when I was making decisions (and paying with earned money)clothes, hairstyles and bedroom decor. Right around 6th and 7th grade.

Joy, that is so funny! I am still looking forward to the day I can say "I'm mature now." Thank the Lord that He is still working on me!

Happy anniversary! You've got 10 years on us. I can imagine they will fly!

Hmmm, when did I become mature. . .so many sarcastic comments run through my head at that question ;)

Thanks for sharing though, that was really cute.

Darling post. Thanks for sharing it. Your sensitive, caring heart shows even then.

I'm not old enough to be mature yet!!!!! But I am working on it :o)

Congrats on your 22 years. My post today is about a marriage workshop we just attended.

First things first... CONGRATULATIONS on 22 years!!

Other then the mirror, where "mature” is not what I desire, it seems as if the props of life are what makes the difference between feeling mature and feeling young or wild. I remember feeling "mature" because I was assigned a locker; right up to the moment I had to get help opening it. Maybe the next mile marker in maturity was helping a student open their locker. God bless.

Too funny :) I found my diary at my parents' house the other day, too. Oh the torment of being a teenager! You would have thought my life was ENDING on a daily basis :)

Congrats on your anniversary!! You guys are cute :)

Don't be too hard on yourself. I remember being in 7th grade and having my first visit from Mother Nature; the rest of that day I would look at things and think "this is the first time I've seen this as a woman". :) I think we all have moments that tell us that we *must* be grown up to be experiencing it.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!

This was so funny. I have a diary too, from back in the day, but I only wrote for a short while, and only about boys...
I love your anniversary pic. Very nice couple.
On being mature......don´t think I´m there yet!

Congratulations on 22 Years! Your picture is great. I loved reading your diary entry.

I think I felt mature some where around 16 when I got my license. Now I realize how much I did not know and how much more there is to know.

I get scared and wonder who's looking after my children, because I'm surely not mature enough to be left alone with them! Lovely diary entries - the boys and I are reading Laura Ingalls Wilder at the moment.

And I have followed your Moms in Touch link and am very grateful for it - I'm particularly interested in the idea of praying for the schools, as I've been praying for the boys' school which is very troubled at the moment, and I've particularly been praying to meet just one other Christian parent there who can share the burden with me - in France this is not very likely as we are a very secular country. I will show your site to MOPS and will revisit it myself. Thanks.

Congrats on 22 years!
Lockers are a big deal! My daughter goes into Jr. High and will be getting one in the fall. I was thinking about getting her a special gift basket of locker accessories.
I think I felt mature when I got my first car. It cost 500 dollars and was an old mazda but I was so excited. My dad made me pay him back every penny so it meant something to me in that way too.
Thanks for the reminder to pull out old diaries, I think my daughter would appreciate some sharing. It's typical to be boy crazy at those ages.

I remember getting a locker as being a very big deal... and it meant starting junior high was was pretty scary!

It's great that you still have the journals. What a fun trip down memory lane.

Oh, you made me wish I still had my diary! I can't recall when I threw mine out! Quite enjoyed your cute entry!

“To make mistakes is human; to stumble is commonplace; to be able to laugh at yourself is maturity.”

William Arthur Ward

I think I must be very mature - I have to laugh at myself a lot and I'm still a kid at heart!! LOL
