My Reality Show

Right now Reality TV shows are all the rage.  Whether you are a

Kardashian

or a Duggar,

it doesn’t matter.   People are  putting their life out there for others to see,  and a lot of people seem to be watching.   Soooo, I don’t have a film crew to follow me around all day, but I thought I would give you an idea of how I grew up.   It wasn’t Duggar style or Kardashian style, but it was a happy childhood.

I grew up in Central Florida.   Palmetto bushes and Pine trees filled the landscape and Spanish moss waved from the oak trees.   My parents purchased a tropical fish farm when I was little.  [I know some of you may not have any idea of what that is.  I’m trying to get some pictures of it and I will show you in another post.]   Anyway, they worked hard together running a successful business off that 25 acre farm.  We also had a horse named Candy and a bunch of cows.

Below is a picture of my second birthday.  Parents, Grandparents and Great Grandmother are all pictured.

Here is my dad.  My cousin and I are on the horse.  The fish farm is in the background.

Some of my cousins lived just across the street (I’m the one on the end):

I’m the oldest in my family.  I have one sister.  Here we are posing for a picture before church one Sunday.  My mom made most of our clothes.  She was a great seamstress.    This was probably Mother’s Day.  My mom always had us wear a corsage on Mother’s Day.   She also loved to give me perms for some reason.  Those curls are not natural on my little head.

Just a little glimpse into my little life.

I love the normality of your life, rather than the shock value of the reality shows. :)

Cute little curls and dresses. You were adorable!

Thank goodness you're more wholesome than the Kardashians. And a lot less drama, too!

I am not sure how I found your blog, but this post was so sweet. I live in CFL now. The picture with corsage was most adorable. :)

you have a great reality show...the one's on TV are so far from reality...I guess that's why we just have to watch now and then...

What a wonderful glimpse into your childhood. My daughter has said to me "I wish I had grown up when you did. It looks like a lot more fun." High praise from a teenager. ~Joy
P.S.: You were adorable!

This was great, Joy, and I so enjoyed seeing all this and your "telling". Sounds like a wonderful childhood and family. You are sooo cute!!! Hope you keep going with this and show us more as you grow. I'm going to put this in the back of mind and maybe try and do one like this "someday".

Again, I say, so glad you are back to blogging!!

I had a personal experience with reality tv.........it's NOT that real. Three endings were taped, so in editing the one with the biggest impact was chosen.

I love your precious life much more! There is soooo much more to REAL than Hollywood Real! Thank you for sharing.

Oh Joy, What a JOY it was to see you as a curly head girlie girl! These photos sure made me want to go dig out some of my own vintage ones. (Did I just use the word vintage describing my life's photos?)

Hi Joy,

Just visiting via the Next Blog button and I really enjoyed your photos of your family in central Florida (My wife and I live in Jacksonville).

Also got a kick out of your Stephen Ministry post about the repairs on that Methodist Church.

Noticed that you had not posted in quite a while, so I guess it was a lucky day when I hit your site when I did.

I love it, Joy. I'm always interested in hearing more about my blog friends. You are so lucky to have had grandparents AND even a great grandmother.. All of my grandparents were dead before I was born. SO--I missed out on all of that..

It was great to hear from you.
Hugs,
Betsy

I cannot believe how reality shows have taken off in popularity. They have become so fake too.

I have heard of the Kardashians, but I live under a rock and have no idea about them. Comparing your photos to the photos of them, I can confirm that you are much more my type of person! Loved the pics.

I can remember when photos looked like that.

May God bless you.
