Bod Squad

As most of you know I am the mother of two girls. They like to shop at tween and teen stores. It bothers me when I see clothing that is so not appropriate for young girls.

I heard Dannah Gresh on Focus on the Family Radio the other night and she was talking about a petition she is presenting to the Council of Fashion Designers of America regarding sensual clothing targeted to tweens. Anyway you can read it for yourself and if you would like to go her website and sign the petition. You can also find out about Dannah and her ministry to moms and daughters.

This world sends so many messages to our girls and boys and it's our job to filter these messages and point them towards the truth.

I thought this petition was a great idea to let the fashion industry know how we stand.

Oh Joy---I feel sorry for young parents these days --raising kids, especially girls. I raised three sons--but there was NEVER the types of pressures on kids back then that there are now. You are doing the correct thing with your girls. Be proactive and remember to stay TOUGH through these teen years. Other parents may not be doing that---so your girls will have friends that can do all kinds of things which you consider not to be appropriate. Stick to your guns. Your girls will thank you in the long run.
Hugs,
Betsy

You are so right! Very hard these days. At school, we have a dress code, and I am so thankful. At least there for 8 hrs., they are covered and look very nice!

Hop over for my giveaway!

I totally agree with Betsy! In my opinion its tougher to raise children nowadays - and I thought it was tough then. Peer pressure is horrible. I pray that parents help their tweens and teens to have the courage to SET the pace, rather than to be followers of every, in my opinion, silly and expensive passing fad. What makes things even harder is the poor example set by some of the other moms. Seems like hems are going up, the 'girls' are hanging out and modest dress is laughed at. May the Lord provide all the wisdom you need to raise your daughters to be godly women! They've got a great example in their mom!

Joy, I have to agree. Young girls seem to be targeted by designers to become sexually aware of their bodies and to flaunt it. I think that should be against the law just as child porn is.

On one hand you have promotion of sexual explicite clothing and then it accomplishes what it was meant to accomplish when young girls wear it. To arouse! Then there are the perverts to deal with.

In some ways I miss having my girls home growing up. But in others like these, I am glad they are grown up and know the difference between good and bad.
I think it´s great what you are doing and hope you have success with it!

The nice thing to remember is that because it is important to you, it will probably also be important to your girls too.

Amber has been a great example to Emily of how to dress cute and modest all at the same time.

I'm so glad that there are other moms who care about these things too!

Good luck to you!

I'm with you on this one for sure, Joy. I really had a hard time when my now-21 year old daughter couldn't wear the young girls clothing anymore. It made it so much harder to find appropriate items. Now I'm going through the process with my 8 year old, but fortunately for us she's very petite! I'll go and check out this site.
God bless,
Brenda

Hey Joy! As an adult, I can relate to the problem too! Check out this site - http://www.modestclothes.com/modest-girls-clothing.html
I have bought items through Shade, Modbe, Downeast Basics, Layers, and DiviineModestee. Some of the others listed look like they might be good for teens/tweens as well. I love the camis, tanks, and layering tees.

Sadly, they make these clothes because there is a market for them. The best thing we can do is simply not buy their product.

Hi Joy! My name is Sarah Andersen and I am an Intern for Dannah Gresh at the moment and am working on promoting our "Shop Til You Drop" event coming up Oct 23rd and 24th! I found this blog off of google and I know that the ministry of PureFreedom would LOVE if you could mention this event to all your mom, and even non-mom friends so they can support stores this weekend that provide age-appropriate clothing to young girls! If you go to the following website you can check out which stores we have chosen to support and (my favorite part!) print out a thank you note to give to the stores when you shop there! So thanks again for partnering with us on this, it is a battlefield for the minds and bodies of young girls and we want to win the fight!
