A Blurb from the Burbs - IV

It's 2009 and I don't know about you, but I'm looking for ways I can be more frugal this year.
I've checked out several books from the library (reading the frugal way - no buying - just borrowing).
These are the books I've checked out and mostly read/skimmed/glanced over....

Living Rich for Less by Ellie Kay

Frugal Luxuries by Tracy McBride

The Frugal Woman's Guide to a Rich Life. Edited by Stacia Ragolia

The one I found the most helpful is The Frugal Woman's Guide to a Rich Life.
I read this idea and have used it now for a couple of weeks. It works. So I'm sharing it with you...
* Purchase a small bottle of generic liquid fabric softener.
* Put one cup of the softener in a container
with one cup of water.
* Place the lid back on and give it a little shake.
* Cut a 4x6" sponge into four squares.
* Soak the sponge(s) in the mixture.
* Throw an unsqueezed sponge in the dryer
with your clothes.
* Placed the dried sponge back in the mixture.

I realize this is such inspiring photography. Sponges floating in fabric softener sitting on top of my dryer. Sorry, I just like having a picture with my post. Breaks up all those words. [and for the visual learners among us....I need pictures. :)]

I know I've posted about fabric softener before, but I read this and like this idea so much better than the vinegar one.

Check out my other Blurbs:

If you have a frugal idea, let me know. I'd love to read it.

I think that saving-in this day and age-is just something that everybody must at least try to do at one point or another.

It's very nice of you to share your tips with everyone, Joy. :)

About frugal reading...I think blogs are the best ways to read these days! I know, right? :) You don't hafta pay anybody anything, and you don't hafta leave your house to do so! Perfect! :)

Charity, you are so right. I meant to mention that in this post I do search for and read different blogs that promote frugality and offer money saving tips. There are lots out there. I'll try and post some that I like to read soon.

My husband and I were just talking this evening of ways we could save without doing anything too drastic and take the fun out of life.

I went shopping today and did not buy that much and I spent $100 on groceries. Things have got very expensive up here.

This is such a great idea, thanks so much, I cannot get dryer sheets here, so I bring them over with me when I come...and now I can do this. Thanks for the tip!!!

The biggest way I tend to save money is on groceries, by only shopping for the week, and sticking to a set budget. Do you like the fabric softener idea?

I've been using this idea now for over a month. I'm definitely sure it works. My concern was laying clothes on the sponge. I didn't know if the softener would make a mark on the clothes in the dryer, but so far our clothes are fine. I think it is stretching the fabric softener and I'll keep using this idea.

This idea looks great - but perhaps you'd save more by getting rid of the drying and hooking up a washing line in the back yard. Nature does the drying for free... :-)
